St. Sofia's Square

The Monument to Bogdan Khmel'nitsky (located in St. Sophia's Square)
This is one of the most famous monuments in the city. It was designed by sculptor Mikhail Mykenshin. He planned to embody in his creation the idea of the “sole and indivisble” Russian Empire.

St. Sofia's Cathedral
According to legend St. Sofia's Cathedral was built on the spot where Yaroslav the Wise won a decisive victory over the nomadic Pechenegs. In the 17th Century a monastery was established. It existed until 1786 after which it became the residence of Kyiv's metropolitans. In 1934 the site was turned into a state architectural and historic reserve. We didn't actually go inside we just got to see it from the outside.
