St. Michael's Square

Mikhaylovkaya Square (St. Michael's)
The north-eastern part of the Upper City was separated from the other parts of old Kyiv by ravines. This area was called Mikhaylovkaya Mountain after the Mikhaylovsky Gold-Domed Monastery. After the monument to Prince Vladimir was erected the mountain became known as Vladimirskaya. Over time the ravines were covered and Mikhaylovkaya Square was created. During the Soviet reign it was united with St. Sofia's to create a massive parade ground and governmental center. The project was abandoned halfway through but the bell tower and Gold-Domed monastery were already destroyed but have sense been reconstructed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
A massive gray building was built in 1936 and was at first the Central Committee of the communist part of Ukraine. There was to be an identical building built across from it with a giant statue of Lenin facing the River in between.

The Monument to Princess Olga
This set of statues depicts Princess Olga, the Apostle Andrew and the Saints Cyril and Methodious. It was created in 1911. It however was destroyed by the Soviet authorities and was replaced in 95-96.
